چکیده

The high Peak-to-Average-Power ratio (PAR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission systems has become a significant issue in the design of modern multicarrier systems. One of the earliest and most popular techniques is tone reservation [1], where a set of unused tones (or specially reserved-tones) are exploited to generate time-domain signals to reduce the signal peaks. The reserved-tones are usually allocated in advance and are unused for data transmission. In this work, choosing the reserved-tones dynamically based on the actual signal realization via an l1-norm constraint is proposed and shown to significantly improve the PAR performance of tone reservation. With the reserved-tones being chosen dynamically and no side information about the reserved-tone set at the receiver, additional processing is needed. Methods to help the receiver reliably estimate the reservedtone set are also explored. For an N = 64 16-QAM OFDM system, dynamically choosing the reservedtones reduces the PAR by 1.2 dB at 10 symbol clip probability compared to a fixed reserved-tone set.

Selective Tone Reservation method for PAPR reduction in SFBC-OFDM systems

The high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO-OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency. In this paper, an extension of Tone Reservation (TR) method is introduced for PAPR reduction in Space Frequency Block Coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM) systems. The proposed algorithm is based on a time domain kernel which is added to the signal of the anten...

PSD-Constrained PAR Reduction for DMT/OFDM

Common to all DMT/OFDM systems is a large peak-to-average ratio (PAR), which can lead to low power efficiency and nonlinear distortion. Tone reservation uses unused or reserved tones to design a peak-canceling signal to lower the PAR of a transmit block. In DMT ADSL systems, the power allocated to these tones may be limited due to crosstalk issues with many users in one twisted pair bundle. Thi...

A low complexity multicarrier PAR reduction approach based on subgradient optimization

We introduce a novel subgradient optimization-based framework for iterative peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) reduction for multicarrier systems, such as wireless orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and wireline discrete multitone (DMT) very high-speed digital subscriber line (DMT-VDSL) systems. The proposed approach uses reserved or unused tones to minimize the peak magnitude of ...

Joint Optimal Resource Allocation and PAPR Reduction Algorithm for OFDMA Systems

One of the drawbacks of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is the larger peak to averaged power ratio (PAPR). The PAPR reduction scheme is a complicated problem, especially when a resource allocation is considered jointly. In this paper, a joint algorithm for determining an optimal resource allocation with PAPR awareness is proposed. Firstly, an adaptive tone reservatio...

Adaptive policy of buffer allocation and preventive maintenance actions in unreliable production lines

The buffer allocation problem is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem, and it is an important design problem in manufacturing systems. The research proposed in this paper concerns a product line consisting of n unreliable machines with n − 1 buffers and a preventive maintenance policy. The focus of the research is to obtain a better trade-off between the buffer level ...
